Large facilities like hospitals and plants house
hundreds of different kinds of equipment, with as many
or more people using on the maintenance management
within the facility that is using it. Although they’ve
been criticized as an extravagant means for simply
ordering regular maintenance, a good system will do much
more.
With a large facility every piece of equipment has an
important role. Consider what goes on inside a factory
or manufacturing plant. Even a small breakdown can throw
off a whole day (or more) and mean the loss of a small
fortune. With regular maintenance, this scenario can
often be averted. It is one thing to say something needs
to be properly maintained, but computerized maintenance
management software makes sure that it gets done. The
implications of this are enormous. Operating costs
drop because both staff and equipment are able to run
more efficiently and cost-effectively. A problem is
easier to pinpoint and can be found in less time. No one
is guessing as to when was the last time this or that
was serviced, because the computerized system provides
this information with very little effort on the user’s
part.
Saving money is a major reason to use a CMMS software.
Of course, this is just an excellent byproduct of an
entire facility simply working in a more well-organized
and efficient manner.
