As the saying goes: “there's no I in team.” Working
together is often vital to success; it can be crucial to
health of employees and the company they are working
for. Collaboration software puts teamwork into action
using electronic communication between people or work
groups.
With the increasingly widespread use of the internet,
collaboration software is not only becoming more popular
but also better in its capabilities. It not only
increases communication within an organization, but can
also facilitate communication between a group of
organizations.
There are some simple collaboration tools, such as chat
rooms and bulletin boards. Collaboration itself can
happen on a peer level--with multiple people sharing the
work and passing it to one another--or on a hierarchical
level--where there is a central place to oversee the
work.
Computers impact on the business world might lead some
people to believe that communication is no longer
necessary. Although the ways to communicate may have
evolved, communication itself is more important than
ever. This type of software aides this process. Perhaps,
there are several people working on an upcoming
presentation. It’s difficult to get the actual work
done, if they are having to constantly meet to discuss
what each team member is doing. Collaboration software
either eliminates or reduces the amount of time spent
communicating. Yet, the quality of communication is
more focused.
The time is better spent, meaning more time to work on
additional projects. The end result is more efficiency
and money well spent. |
