A bug is any defect, misunderstanding, issue or failure
within a company, project or computer system. Whether
it’s called a bug, a pest or a nuisance, it all adds up
to an annoyance and a less efficient work place. A bug
tracking system works as a virtual hunter that stalks
bugs as they reappear and squashes them out. It’s an
automated program that captures and monitors these pesky
creatures, so that they actually get dealt with, instead
of the reoccurring “oh yeah, we need to do something
about that”.
Like equipment failure, a bug slows down a company’s
operations. It can result in the loss of human resources
as employees deal with the problem. A project can also
literally stand still if the bug is irritating enough.
The result is lost revenue. Thus, the biggest benefit of
a bug tracking software system is that it deals with
these bugs once and for all, not as they continually
come up. After all, it’s not called a “bug” because it’s
a pleasant thing to encounter.
A software system like this is important to have because
it maintains a record, as well. An employer will know
what went wrong, when it occurred and how it was
ultimately solved.
Bugs be gone!
